New Sugbongcogon municipal hall expected to be inaugurated next week

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – IF plans don’t miscarry, the new Sugbongcogon municipal hall in Misamis Oriental is set to be inaugurated next week.

According to Mayor Mildred Lagbas Mondigo and Vice Mayor Ivan Chester E Lagbas finishing touches of the sprawling structure is already 95 percent complete.

The modern architecture of the new municipal hall is seamlessly fused with a touch of traditional design as an homage to the history of the town.

The new edifice actually comprises the two-level main municipal hall and the three-storey legislative building. Each is equipped with elevators to be used in priority by differently-abled persons, senior citizens, pregnant women and in cases of emergency.

The main municipal hall which has also a roofdeck for various functions will house the mayor’s office and all of the executive departments.

Meanwhile, the legislative building will be occupied by the vice mayor’s office, municipal council, session hall and offices of national agencies such as Comelec, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and DILG.

The P90-million new municipal hall is in part funded by the local government unit’s P50-million loan and legislative funding courses through then Sen. Manny Pacquiao worth P20 million and Rep. Christian Unabia worth P10 million.

The provincial government under the administration of then Gov. Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” Emano also funded P10 million for the project.

The old municipal hall was razed by fire in May 2019.
