Marawi City – The Marawi Compensation Board has awarded over One-Hundred Forty-Eight Million, Eight-Hundred Forty-Eight Thousand, Seven-Hundred Ninety-four Pesos, and Twenty-six centavos (Php 148,848,794.26) as compensation for the victims of the 2017 Marawi siege.
It has been nine (9) Months since the Board commenced the receiving of applications of claims from the victims of the Marawi siege. Filed claims encompasses the Structural Property Claims (SPC), Death Claims (DC), Personal Property Claims (PC), and Other Property Claims (OPC), and Multiple Claim (MC). “Republic Act 11696 serves as a beacon of hope for those affected by Marawi Siege, offering a legal framework to redress the injustices endured, and provide monetary compensation”, said by MCB Chairperson Atty. The One-Hundred Forty-Eight Million, Eight-Hundred Forty-Eight Thousand, Seven-Hundred Ninety-four Pesos, and Twenty-six centavos (Php 148,848,794.26) awarded as of April 30, 2024 was distributed to (86) eighty-six Death Claims, and (32) thirty-two Structural and Personal Property Claims.
During awarding of compensation, claimants expressed their sentiments to the government’s help to the victims. “Dagko Kaayo ang akong pasalamat sa akong nadawat karon sa MCB na gihatag sa among pamilya para sa anak ko na nawala. Dili lalim nga mawad an ta sa ika ka pamilya. Sakit man sa ako’ang hunaw hunaw sa ako na nawala ang akong anak. Pero wala na ko’y mahimo kay pagbuot man na sa ginoo” [I am thankful for what may family received from MCB. Losing a child was so hard. I have endured so much. But I cannot do anything because it is god’s plan], said Nora Culaste, a death claimant
