By: Gerry Lee Gorit

Malaybalay City, Bukidnon – Regional Director Marie Elaine Salvaña Unchuan of DOT-10 lauded the amazing performances of authentic tribes who participated in the historic Kaamulan Festival 2024.

She said this makes the festival more authentic than any other festivals in the country, considering the active participation of the seven tribes of Bukidnon.

“You see who won the street dancing, it’s Quezon because of the authenticity of the tribe participating in the authentic dancing during their performances. Siguro and choreograph adto is ang sequence lang eh. Pero the dances themselves they know it by heart,” the regional director said.

Unchuan said this year’s very successful Kaamulan is also credited to the active support of the leaders in the province, who’ve been very supportive of the festival, adding that the preservation of the cultures and traditions of the tribal people play a very big impact of the yearly festival, worth emulating by other provinces.

ACTIVE SUPPORT

The DOT official also credited the total support of the leaders not only in preserving the culture and traditions of the seven tribes but also in other fields especially in the artistry of the people dwelling in the province.

She mentioned soil painter Waway Saway whose artistry in art is really rewarding and creating an impact that Bukidnon lumads are also excelling in other fields.

Waway Saway, she said, is now being recognized as one of the country’s most recognized artists by the Art’s commission.

Unchuan hopes Saway will be confirmed soon by the national commission so that he will become an inspiration to his tribe and to all artists in the country.
