DOST XI, USeP to Develop Innovation Workbook to Empower Grassroots Innovators

In a move towards fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI), in collaboration with the Provincial Science and Technology Office Davao del Sur (PSTO Davao del Sur), recently organized a simulation activity for the Grassroots Innovation for Inclusive Development (GRIND) Innovation Workbook that is set to empower grassroots innovators.

The GRIND Innovation Workbook, a brainchild of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) under the leadership of Dr. Karl P. Campos, Director of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Division, was developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Program – Philippines (UNDP-Ph). This initiative aims to empower community members by providing them with a platform to express and articulate their innovative ideas effectively and facilitate a seamless collaboration with developers to bring those ideas to fruition.

Crafted using the Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate or ADDIE model, the GRIND Innovation Workbook underwent iterative development phases, allowing for constant improvements and modifications. The recent simulation activity marked the 4th Phase of the Workbook’s development, focusing on the validation and evaluation of its contents.

Engr. Howell Ong, the GRIND Unit Section Head, led the GRIND Technical Working Team in facilitating the simulation activity.

“The valuable insights and suggestions of grassroots innovators are integral in shaping the GRIND Workbook. This activity reaffirms our commitment to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures and supports local innovators for a more inclusive and sustainable development in the Region,” Engr. Ong said.

Ten Grassroots Innovators from various municipalities in Davao del Sur engaged in collaborative discussions and a series of activities and workshops that is expected to enhance the GRIND Workbook and ensure its relevance in supporting grassroots innovations.

The GRIND Workbook Simulation Activity is only the initial phase of a series of activities scheduled for implementation throughout the year.
