DENR expresses support for Forest Fest 2024

By MARK FRANCISCO

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 10 has expressed support for the holding of Forest Fest 2024 here on April 18 to 20 this year.

A joint project of Forest Foundation Philippines and Spark Project, Forest Fest 2024 is also a collaborative endeavor with Association of Young Environmental Journalists (AYEJ), Talarak Foundation Inc. and Xavier Science Foundation.

It is scheduled to take place at Ayala Centrio activity center.

Speaking during its launch April 3 at Seda Hotel, DENR 10 chief of conservation and development division Roel Dahonog said they are taking care of 132,835 hectares of forest cover here in Northern Mindanao under the enhanced national greening program.

Region 10 also has a total of nine protected areas and five watershed management councils which supervises a corresponding number of riverbasins.

Forest Fest 2024 is designed to promote sustainable forest management and climate adaptation initiatives, provide economic empowerment, and enhance ecosystem services.

This unique gathering aims to unite drivers of environmental impact including diverse stakeholders, including social enterprises, local communities, conservation groups, and the private sector.

Forest Fest 2024 serves as a platform to encourage social entrepreneurs to innovate solutions for forest protection, particularly through nature-based enterprises. By facilitating networking opportunities, the event seeks to forge collaborations and partnerships essential for advancing the cause of sustainable forest management.
