DENR 10 capacitates partners for Wildlife Law Enforcement


To provide technical assistance in the implementation of various laws, rules, and regulations governing wildlife resources in the region, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Region 10 capacitated partners through a two-day Deputation Training on Wildlife Law Enforcement on January 25-26, 2024 in Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City.

The training aimed to help the participants to familiarize the Rules of Procedures for Environmental Cases and the Wildlife Law Enforcement Manual of Operations and to acquire basic skills on identifying and handling wildlife species.

Fifty-one partners from the Local Government Units- Municipal Environment Natural Resources Offices, Philippine National Police Maritime 10, People’s Organizations and volunteers participated the said training.

“The collective efforts of the DENR, partners, stakeholders and communities in the enforcement of various laws, rules and regulations will significantly help to combat any illegal wildlife trade and trafficking in the region”, DENR 10 Regional Executive Director (RED) Henry A. Adornado emphasized during his message.

RED Adornado challenged the participants to help in the information dissemination campaign about the various environment-related topics on wildlife. He also expressed his gratitude to partners in continuous collaboration for the implementation and enforcement of ENR laws.

Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Ma. Theresa J. Allen shared that wildlife trafficking is one of the major environmental problems in the country that needs to be addressed. She added that the additional deputized Wildlife Enforcement Officers will help intensify and continue the region’s Wildlife conservation and protection efforts.

Resource Persons from the DENR 10, Environmental Management Bureau 10, and Mines and Geosciences Bureau 10 discussed topics on the Philippine Biodiversity and Republic Act (RA) No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, duties and responsibilities of Wildlife Enforcement Officers, role of Government and its Officials in Enforcement of Wildlife Laws, Rules and Procedures for Environmental Cases, Wildlife Permits, Identification of commonly traded Wildlife, Environmental Management and RA 7942 or the Mining Act.

The participants also underwent actual proper handling of wildlife in the Regional Wildlife Rescue Center to acquire basic skills during rescue/turn-over of wildlife species.

Upon completion of the training, the participants will be deputized as Wildlife Enforcement Officer in accordance with Joint DENR-Department of Agriculture-Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Administrative Order No. 01 Series of 2004 Section 30. #TayoAngKalikasan RSCIG No. 01-27-2024
