Campaign to destroy loose firearms intensified

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – As a result of the ongoing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms, three Barangay Chiefs and several aspiring candidates in the Barangay and SK Elections have turned over various types of high-powered firearms and ammunition that came from the town of Paglat, Maguindanao Del Sur. It was welcomed and thanked by the soldiers of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion.

That’s what Lt. Col. Jayson Domingo, the Commanding Officer of the 1st Mechanized Battalion, nine loose high-powered firearms with ammunition were presented in the turnover ceremony held at the town’s Municipal Hall this Thursday afternoon (September 7, 2023).

The ceremony was presided over by Paglat Municipal Mayor Raisa Langkuno and formally received by Brig. Gen. Andre Santos, 1Mech Brigade Commander, along with the personnel of Paglat Municipal Police Station, Marietta Ablano, Election Officer of the town, eight Barangay Captains led by ABC President Kamarudin Gumonsang and members of the Municipal Council.

The turned-over guns consisted of two RPGs, one Sniper Rifle 7.62mm, one M79 Grenade Launcher, two 9mm Uzi Submachine Guns, two 40mm Rifle Grenade Launchers along with two cartridges of 40mm HE and one 9mm KG9 SMG.

Major General Alex S. Rillera, Commander of the 6ID and Joint Task Force-Central, on the other hand, rejoiced at the step taken by local officials and barangay officials candidates in the town of Paglat to eliminate the instrument of violence. He also commended the leadership of the 1st Mechanized Battalion and 1st Mechanized Brigade along with the police for their continued efforts to dismantle the loose firearms.
