LAMITAN CITY—Bangsamoro Government broke ground on February 15 to start the construction of P135-million housing project for the Mujahideen, widows, and marginalized sectors in Muhammad Ajul town, Basilan.

The Office of the Chief Minister’ Project Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (KAPYANAN), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) Basilan District, led the groundbreaking ceremony for the 225-unit housing project.

District Engineer Kasim Hasanin said that the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between KAPYANAN and MWP for the construction of the core shelters, each costing P600,000.00, in Sironggon village of the said town.

Hasanin expressed optimism that the construction would be completed in less than a year, considering the approaching 2025 national elections.

“Initially, the program entails 365 calendar days. However, we are strategizing to expedite the process due to the upcoming elections, which may pose challenges. Our target is to complete it before the end of this year,” he said.

Hasanin also directed the secretariat to hasten the pre-procurement preparations saying that said project aims to provide core shelters to mujahideen and especially the widows of Barangay Sironggon.

Similar initiatives are underway in the towns of Albarka, Tipo-Tipo, Ungkaya Pukan, and Sumisip, among others.
