CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The future of Mindanao’s taxi industry arrived in white, sleek, and silent.

Forthing, one of China’s pioneering automakers, made a strong push for full electrification with the launch of its new CAL-X5 — a pure electric SUV built specifically for taxi operators in the Philippines.

The three-day launch caravan held on October 21-23 at the spacious Limketkai Mall parking lot in Cagayan de Oro City drew a massive turnout from the region’s transport sector. Taxi operators, cooperative leaders, and fleet managers came from all over Mindanao just to see the vehicle, with visitors from Butuan, Davao, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, and Zamboanga.

Also present were Mr. Kunihiko Sato and Mrs. Jaycel Sato, owner of KEN Taxi and Forthing’s dealer in Cebu, who shared their experience operating an EV taxi fleet.

The showcase was supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, with Mr. Jade Montero presenting the EV loan program for transport operators. The presence of ALPHA Insurance by Shield Drive Insurance Agency was also acknowledged.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. Taxi operators were impressed with the CAL-X5’s promise of lower operating costs, zero emissions, and superior passenger comfort, with sales of 50 units recorded on the first day alone.

At the heart of the CAL-X5 is a 64.4 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, known for safety and long service life. It delivers a claimed range of up to 530 kilometers on a full charge, enough for a full day of city operations. It also features rapid charging capability that can charge the battery to 80 percent in approximately 35 minutes, minimizing downtime.

Designed as a spacious, sleek white SUV, the CAL-X5 features a modern interior with space-saving utilities tailored for passenger comfort and fleet longevity.

For operators who want to see it up close, the CAL-X5 is available at Forthing’s showroom at the corner of Villarin and Max Suniel Streets in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City. They are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for inquiries on specs, warranty, and after-sales services.

The CAL-X5 is also available for financing through BDO, Maybank, PBCom, Unifinance, Orix, and Cooperative Bank of Cebu.

Level up your passenger’s ride with the Forthing CAL-X5! In these trying times, switching to electric is the way to go!
