CAGAYAN de Oro City (Lumbia) Hospital chief of hospital Dr. Ferdinand Miranda is aiming for the facility to be a Level I medical facility.
This was one of the remarks made by Miranda during the weekly press conference with the Cagayan de Oro Press Club last September 30 at SM CDO Downtown here.
For now, the Lumbia hospital which opened in 2022 is still an infirmary under Department of Health (DOH) classification that means it can provide basic medical care, observation, emergency/initial management and other services.
But Miranda is trying his best to turn things around.
For one, he has already lobbied before the City Council to increase the budget of the Lumbia hospital next year so they could purchase more equipment such as x-ray machines and more so they would not necessarily refer patients to the more advanced but father Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in downtown Cagayan de Oro.
“Ang ato man g’yud tumong ug tinguha nga maka-serbisyo sa kabarangayan diri sa upland nga dili na sila necessary monaog pa sa ubos. We can only do that better if we become a Level I hospital,” Miranda pointed out, adding that the 2026 budget is only based on the number of patients that it has served the previous year.
With a bed capacity of only 25, the Cagayan de Oro City (Lumbia) Hospital is located in barangay Lumbia proper yet Miranda said they also receive patients from as far downtown as Kauswagan and Lapasan, especially for those needed to be injected with anti-rabies medication.
“Nakita man gud nila nga as long as they are already in the facility at 4 p.m., dili g’yud namo sila balibaran,” Miranda said, adding that he always tells his staff to serve their patients “with a smile. The smile of a doctor or a nurse can also serve as emotional medicine.”
Miranda was recently promoted to the item of assistant chief of hospital, paving the way for his assumption at the Lumbia annex. The hospital also recently celebrated its fourth anniversary.
