CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Understanding a child’s nutritional needs is one of the important responsibilities of parents. However, access to clear and easy-to-understand nutrition information remains important for many Filipino families.

To help address this need, CERELAC Philippines brought its Tambalang Big Sustansya sa Barangay program to Barangay Macabalan, gathering parents and families at the Barangay Macabalan Barangay Hall on September 5, 2026.

The program focused on providing Filipino parents with nutrition education and practical information about the nutritional needs of their children during their early years.

According to Sophia Samoy, Brand Manager for CERELAC Philippines, the initiative is part of the brand’s effort to make nutrition education more accessible to Filipino families and communities.

“As a brand that has been part of many Filipino families for generations, our responsibility really goes beyond our products,” Samoy said.

“We really want to make nutrition education more accessible to more Filipino families and communities because we believe that the right nutrition should start with the right knowledge,” she added.

The event highlighted the importance of giving parents reliable information about their children’s nutritional needs.

Samoy explained that CERELAC’s goal is not only to provide nutritious products but also to help parents gain the knowledge they need when making decisions about their children’s nutrition.

“It is not only our responsibility to provide nutritious products, but also to equip Filipino parents with the right nutrition knowledge,” she said.

One of the key parts of the program was the nutrition discussion led by Doc Katrina Dacanay. Through the Tambalang Bingo activity, parents were given an opportunity to learn about children’s nutrition in an interactive setting.

The activity combined learning and participation, making nutrition information easier for parents and caregivers to understand.

CERELAC also emphasized the importance of practical nutrition education. Parents were given information and tips that they could apply in their daily routines when caring for their children.

Samoy said nutrition education is important because parents and caregivers make everyday decisions that can affect their children’s growth and development.

“This is important because we believe that proper nutrition also starts with the right knowledge about the nutritional needs of children and babies,” she said.

For many parents, learning about nutrition can help answer common questions about what children need as they grow. Programs such as Tambalang Big Sustansya sa Barangay aim to make this information more available and easier to understand.

Through the program, CERELAC combined nutrition education with community engagement, focusing on the role of parents in supporting their children’s nutritional needs.

As the program reached families in Barangay Macabalan, CERELAC’s message remained centered on one idea: proper nutrition begins with the right knowledge, and informed parents can make better decisions for their children’s growth and well-being.
