WEST City Central School – under the baton of band majorette Zhoujien Sajulga – grabbed the elementary championship of the Dinogan Festival drum and lyre competition 2026.
Dinogan is the yearly fiesta celebration of barangay Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City in honor of its patron Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. It comes from dinog, the most prevailing flora in the area when Carmen was still a dense forest before foreign colonization.
The Dinogan Festival drum and lyre competition was held July 13 outside Carmen public market and joined by the following schools in the elementary category: Gusa Elementary School, Sacred Heart Village Elementary School, Upper Carmen Elementary School, West City Central School and East City Central School.
West City Central School beat all of these schools with Zhoujien at the helm.
Zhoujien was also named best band majorette and the school was awarded best in musicality, best in choreography and most disciplined.
“Daghang salamat sa atong mga dedikadong estudyante ug mga school staff sa nagkalain-laing tunghaan sa atong syudad nga mipartisipar sa inyong grabeng paningkamot ug kadasig sa pagpasundayag,” said barangay chairman Raineir Joaquin Uy. “Ang Dinogan Festival usa ka pamatuod sa kalipay, pagtinabangay ug panaghiusa. Mabuhay barangay Carmen!”
