Luisa’s last hurrah: outgoing band mother steers MOGCHS to Himugso drum and lyre championship

MISAMIS Oriental General Comprehensive Highschool (MOGCHS) – under the leadership of outgoing band mother Maria Luisa Piamonte – emerged champion in the first ever Himugso inter-high school drum and lyre competition.

The event was held Sunday morning (June 14) with nine participating corps marching from Rodelsa Circle to Pelaez Sports Center.

They are Taglimao National High School, Balulang National High School, PN Roa Senior High School, Bulua National High School, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Lumbia National High School, Macabalan National High School, Carmen National High School and crowd favorite Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School.

MOGCHS also swept the following special awards:

● Best in Uniform-Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (Contingent No. 7)
● Best Band Major-Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (Contingent No. 7)
● Best Band Majorette-Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (Contingent No. 7)
● Best in Musicality-Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive Highschool (Contingent No. 7)
● Most Disciplined Contingent-Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive Highschool (Contingent No. 7)

The special awards recognized the exceptional talent, discipline, and outstanding performances of the participating contingents, further highlighting the spirit of excellence during the Himugso 2026 celebration.

The champion, Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, received a P70,000 cash prize and a trophy; the 1st Runner-Up, Carmen National High School, received P60,000 and a trophy; while the 2nd Runner-Up, Balulang National High School, received P50,000 and a trophy.

The competition showcased the remarkable talent, discipline, and teamwork of Cagayan de Oro’s young musicians and performers, making this year’s Himugso celebration even more memorable. CIO
