BALAI Sirena is a prominent mermaid swimming and certification school here in the country and they just visited Cagayan de Oro City recently for an intimate one-on-one instruction with only a dozen students.
Held at Apple Tree Resort and Hotel in Opol, Misamis Oriental from May 15 to 16, the training covered the introductory course called Mermaid Discovery.
Discover mermaiding is their first level certification where one learns the basics of mermaiding. At the end of the one-day certification course, the students are expected to be able to swim like a mermaid and do some poses.
For 31-year-old Mutya, being one of the select students of Balai Sirena was a dream come true.
In the era when there was no social media yet, Mutya’s childhood was immersed with sceneries and memories of Marina and Dysebel on television.
This impression she carried even when she was a young woman already and all through adulthood.
“For me, it is fulfilling my inner child fantasies. I was amazed. Natupad ang aking childhood dream,” Mutya said.
But Balai Sirena doesn’t stop there.
It offers advanced intermediate and advanced mermaiding too.
Intermediate mermaiding is a two-day training that focuses on skill development, proper body movement, breath control and confidence underwater. This is ideal for those who want to level up from basic mermaid skills.
Meanwhile, advanced mermaiding is a three-day intensive training that includes refined techniques, endurance training, underwater performance skills and stronger discipline in mermaid form and safety standards.
Each session is inclusive of theory of class, studio lesson, mermaid accessories, mermaid tail, merfin, mask and snorkel, makeup and styling, underwater photos and videos and access to a fun and welcoming mermaid community!
The course includes professional guidance, proper techniques and internationally recognized certification.
