6.4 magnitude quake jolts parts of northern Luzon

LAOAG CITY – A 6.4 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of northern Luzon on Tuesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said it traced the quake’s epicenter 26 kilometers northwest of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan province.

The earthquake, which hit the area at around 7:03 p.m., was of tectonic origin and was 10 kilometers deep.

Nearby Aparri and Gonzaga in Cagayan and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte felt the tremor at Intensity IV, including Sinait in Ilocos Sur.

Intensity III was also recorded in Penablanca, Cagayan, and Vigan City in Ilocos Sur.

Intensity II was felt in Ilagan, Isabela, while Intensity I was felt in Casiguran, Aurora, Candon City, Narvacan and Tagudin in Ilocos Sur.

While expecting no damage, Phivolcs advised the public to take extra precaution as aftershocks are expected. (PNA)
