4 prov’l board members to run for CDO’s city council

BY CRIS DIAZ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Four senior executives from Misamis Oriental, two incumbents, are running for city councilors in Cagayan de Oro in the May 2025 midterm election.

Provincial Governor Peter Unabia, of Misamis Oriental, announced during a press conference with the local press Wednesday.

Except for the fourth candidate whose name was not divulged, Unabia identified the provincial officials as incumbent provincial board members as Gerardo “Boboy” Sabal, and Weng Militante. The third was Fernando ” Sotsot” Dy, head of the provincial risk reduction management office.

Sabal and Militante transferred their registration with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Wednesday morning to be able to meet the one year residency period.

Unabia said that Militante and Dy are both residents of the city’s first district while Sabal to run for the city’s second district.

He said that he personally support the incumbent Cagayan de Oro Coty Mayor Rolando Uy, but will not insist that our candidates become part of Uy’s lineup.

“The endorsement of the provincial capitol officials for a political slot in Cagayan de Oro is intended to harmonize the city and province in terms of economic development,” Unabia said.
