CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A lawmaker from Cagayan de Oro bewailed the death of an Overseas Foreign Worker (OFW) while asking a probe of the victim’s death in response to the family’s cry for justice.
Cagayan de Oro City Cong. Rufus Rodriguez mourned the death of Dafnie Nacalaban, 35, of Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro as he described the OFW death “not isolated.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Dec ember 31, 2024 that the remains of Nacalaban was recovered buried in the gardener’s yard of her employer’s home in Saad Al-Abdullah, Jahra, Kuwait.
The death of the Cagayanon OFW Nacalaban is not an isolated incident that the government must strengthen the systems to protect and promote the safety and welfare of our OFWs, Rodriguez said in a statent Wednesday.
He said that on January 6 2024, he filed House Resolution No. 2151 calling for an investigation of Nacalaban’s death in aid of legislation.
“The OFWs sacrificed so much for their families and our country,” Rodriguez.
Rodriguez assured the Nacalaban family of his commitment to seek justice for her case and for the other OFW victims.
He said that he urged Congress to pay due attention to this matter as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) hired lawyers “in close coordination” with Kuwaiti authorities to make sure that the investigation gains headway.
