Zambo Sur Gov Yu tests positive for Covid-19

ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR – The deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) does not choose whom to contract with, whether rich or poor, politicians or not.

This time, another top official in the Southern Philippines, particularly Governor Victor Yu of this province, was the latest victim as the deadly and killer virus has chosen him as a host.

Governor Yu announced Wednesday, September 1, that he tested positive for the SARS-COV2 virus, otherwise known as Covid-19.

He said he is now confined at an undisclosed hospital but only experiencing mild to moderate symptoms such as cough, colds, head and body malaise.

“In the spirit of transparency, I am announcing that I tested positive of Covid-19. I am presently experiencing mild to moderate symptoms (cough, colds, head and body aches). Right now, I am confined at the hospital for faster recovery and for the welfare of my family and those around me. But I am continuously working through phone calls and virtual meetings,” Governor Yu said.

The provincial health office (PHO) also confirmed to the press that the governor tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019.

The governor, however, also announced he would still continue to discharge his duties and functions as governor of the province, considering he has only mild symptoms.

Meanwhile, Governor Yu urged the residents in the province to be vigilant and to strictly follow government protocols since the enemy cannot be seen and anyone could be a victim. “Stay well, my beloved Zambosurians,” Yu said.

To date, the province of Zamboanga del Sur is still under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions until September 7, as per official announcement by the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

The Department of Health Regional Office 9 (DOH-9) said the province has 7,219 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 5,644 recoveries, 1,353 active cases, and 222 fatalities. – PNA
