Filipino workers will be treated to free rides at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 on May 1, Labor Day.
This was announced today by the Department of Labor and Employment which requested the Department of Transportation to provide free rides to Filipino workers when the nation observes Labor Day next week.
All public and private workers will be treated to free rides during peak periods from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on May 1 upon presentation of their company identification card or any valid government-issued identification card.
Passengers shall adhere to the usual frisking and baggage inspection by LRT Line 2 management and shall follow rules and regulations, including the mandatory wearing of face masks.
The labor department said jobseekers who will troop to the various job fair sites in the National Capital Region and workers who will report for work on Labor Day are anticipated to benefit from the free rides.
It likewise underscored that the gesture not only eases the financial burden of the workers but also recognizes their significant contributions to national development.
The LRT Line 2 serves 13 stations along its 17.6-kilometer (10.9 mi) route. This includes the Recto, Legarda, Pureza, V.Mapa, J.Ruiz, Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan, Santolan, Marikina-Pasig, and Antipolo stations.
The Department of Labor and Employment will lead the 121st observance of Labor Day with the theme, “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”
