“Woman suicide bomber carried out one of the explosions,” says army spokesman

15 DEAD; 75 WOUNDED IN JOLO BOMBINGS

JOLO, Sulu (MDN Digital Mindanao News) – A woman suicide bomber carried out one of the deadly terrorist attacks in Philippines that resulted to the deaths of 15 people and the wounding of 75 others, a military spokesman said.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronaldo Mateo, in an interview with DZMM radio said they have confirmed that a woman suicide bomber perpetrated the attack and she was one of those who died.  

Mateo told a local radio station in Manila “A female suicide bomber detonated herself as a soldier stopped her from entering the cordoned area.””

Senator Richard Gordon, chief of the Philippine Red Cross, said the first explosion took place near a military truck which immediately claimed the lives of four soldiers and civilians.

Government authorities claimed that while the military is condoning the first blast site, another explosion, reportedly carried by a woman suicide bomber also happened an hour after. The Red Cross office in Jolo town is also near the blast site. 

Initial investigations revealed that eight members of the security forces, civilians and the bomber were killed in the twin blasts. There were also 27 security personnel and 48 civilians who were wounded on the terrorist attacks initially blaimed on the Abu Sayyaf Group. But ASG has not claimed any responsibility yet on the deadly twin bombings. 

Although Philippines is a majority Roman Catholic Country, but Jolo is one of the islands in Southern Philippines which is muslim-dominated place.
