Wife, sister claims Codaste’s cremated remains in Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Family members claimed the cremated body of Pedro Codaste, Mindanao’s number two New People’s Army (NPA) commander , in the municipal town of Impsug-ong, Bukidnon Thursday morning.

His wife Thelma accompanied by his sister Lydia claimed Codaste’s cremated remains in a turnover ceremony in the town hall of lmpasog-ong led by local officials, the military and the police.

In a phone interview with the Manila Times, an unidentified relative said that Thelma and Lydia would bring home Codaste’s remains to Butuan City in Agusan Del Norte where he would be accorded a decent burial.

Codaste, 70, together with his aide identified only as ‘Zandro” were killed in an encounter with government forces in the hinterlands of Kalabugao, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon on Jan. 21, 2022.

Zandro’s cremated body was still in Impasug-ong waiting to be claimed at the municipal town hall, a police officer said.

Brig. Gen. Oliver T Vesliño, Acting Commander of 4ID, said that Codaste was considered as the acting KOMMID Chairman after the death of Cabanatan alias Kuba, Madlos alias Ka Oris and Villanueva alias Ka Bok.

Vesliño said that Codaste was a member of the Communist Party of thw Phillipnes (CPP) Central Committee and Consultant of the National Democratic Front (NDF).

He said that Codaste was also the former Secretary of Guerilla Front 4A (GF4A) in Agusan del Sur during the early ‘90s before becoming the Secretary of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee in 2009.

He was elected to the Central Committee during the CPP 2nd Congress in 2016,” Vesliño said.

Facing multiple cases with warrants of arrest, Codaste is one of the most wanted fugitives for the crime of murder, double frustrated murder and attempted murder, Vesliño said. -0-
