VDay Monologues hold XULT run

This is part of the campaign against violence on women, girls and the LGBT community with the volunteer-actors sharing stories about love, hate, pain, joy and realizations – stories shared by women (and men) from different parts of the world.
According to organizer Maia Fortich-Poblete, the performers are “all dedicated and have the passion to share what they know and how they feel about violence against women, girls and the LGT community members. Some of them are survivors which makes our advocacy this year a little different.”
Eve Ensler was originally commissioned to write The Vagina Monologues, an original play that first saw light in 1996 in Broadway. It’s made up of a varying number of monologues read by a varying number of women. Each of the monologues deals with an aspect of the feminine experience, touching on matters such as sex, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the various common names for the vagina (imbued with the local Cebuano and Filipino languages) or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment and the ultimate embodiment of individuality.
The Vagina Monologues got an instant international following that Ensler decided to make a sequel – A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer.
Catch the next run of VDay Monologues this March 12 and 13 at Seda Centrio. For more information, contact 09178708792.
