Cagayan de Oro -The search committee of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) formally announced its call to accept nominations of 4 Prominent Chief Executive Officers (CEO’s) and 2 Prominent Academicians for Appointment as Members of the USTP Board of Regents in a Press Conference held on Wednesday morning in its boardroom lead by the Chairperson of Search Committee Mr Ruben A Vegafria. The latter is also a Regional Governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Northern Mindanao.
The said conference is also attended by some panelists such as Ms.Analiza U.Miso;Vice Chairperson of the search committee and President of Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Industries,Ms.Rosa S.Go;member of the search committee and President of Misamis Oriental Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MOFCCCI),Engr.Bronson Mabulay; Search Committee member and Director of the Innovation and Technology Solutions Division and Mr Ruel M. Baron ; Search Committee member and Vice President of USTP Alumni Association CDO campus.
This is the first time that the said State University announced nominations through media,said Vegafria.
He said that as stipulated in Republic Act 10919 ,(This is an act establishing USTP)after the amalgamation of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) here and in the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) in the town of Claveria, Misamis Oriental,the governing board of the University shall be the board of regents,among which includes four prominent CEO and two prominent Academicians. The law details that the President of the Philippines shall appoint those mentioned above from a list prepared by the University President in consultation with the Chairperson and other members of the USTP Board of Regents based on the standards and qualifications of the position. The appointed CEO’s and Academicians shall serve for a term of four and two years respectively.
In relation, a Search Committee,which was constituted by the Board of Regents, shall take charge of recruiting,consulting with potential candidates,and recommending to the Board through the University President for appointment by the President of the our country as mandated by law.The search committee shall also conduct a thorough background check of the candidates.
The nominees shall be at least 35 years old, with no age cap limit,at the time of the application; and must not have been convicted of any administrative offense or crime .
For CEO, qualifications includes a Natural born Filipino citizen,provided,that should a CEO be of foreign nationality,the CEO shall be represented by a Filipino member of the corporation,a CEO or any equivalent position carrying different position title,of duly recognized national or multinational Private corporations; and the nominee must have distinguished their selves in the fields of Mathematics,Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture,and advance research and extension work in human resource development,or must have entered into a partnership with the University.For Prominent Academicians; a naturally born Filipino citizen and a prominent Academicians in the Philippines, whether in private or public universities or colleges,who have distinguished themselves in the fields the same with CEO’s.
Vegafria said that any person or group is encouraged to submit their nomination on or before the deadline in October 15,2022. A rigid screening and interviews will be conducted after the deadline which date is to be announced .
