UST-FMS book wins double in international Quill Awards

The UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery highlighted its 150th anniversary celebrations last year with a resounding finale, a win in the prestigious 2023 IABC Gold Quill Awards and also in the 2023 IABC Silver Quill Awards Asia-Pacific, both via its landmark quadricentennial coffee-table book Honora Medicum: 150 Years of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery University of Santo Tomas.

The 380-plus page Honora Medicum was produced in cooperation with the publishing powerhouse Media Wise Communications/MUSE Books, a winner of many publication awards here and abroad. Media Wise Communications president and CEO Ramoncito Ocampo Cruz, who is an awarded UST alumnus, former UST-FMS regent Dr. Gabriel Pastrana and UST FMS secretary Dr. Clifton Pe, M.D. received the Gold Quill at the IABC World Conference on June 6, 2023 in Toronto, Canada. The IABC Silver Quill Awards Asia-Pacific will be held in Bali, Indonesia in September this year.

`The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Gold Quill Awards recognizes and awards excellence in strategic communication, with hundreds of entries from around the world vying for the international awards every year.

Honora Medicum celebrates UST-FMSā€™s 150-year history and elaborates on the institutionā€™s pivotal roles in medical education and in public health in the Philippines, highlighted by UST-FMSā€™s major contribution to the countryā€™s response to the Covid epidemic.

That historic journey is told through the unique prism of the institutionā€™s integration of faith and science in its academic programs, with UST-FMS harnessing the collective expertise and experiences of its graduates and faculty to put Honora Medicum togetherā€”45 interviewees/contributors and 23 writers in all, including UST-FMS dean Ma. Lourdes P. Domingo-Maglinao, M.D., UST-FMS regent Fr. Angel A. Aparicio, O.P., and erstwhile DOH secretary Francisco T. Duque. III.

Honora Medicum earned high praises from the international panel of IABC judges, with one saying that it is a ā€œfascinating and moving body of work, with both tInline the visual and writing. . .Marking any historical moment is not an easy feat, and this work sample comes together nicely in publication form to honor the impact and legacy of the institution in a lasting way.
