CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The police has invited a 28-year-old laborer for questioning, following the death of a one-year and seven-month old baby girl, who was found dead on a bushy hill in Sta. Ana village, Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental Friday morning.
The suspect, Ian Baranggit, 28, an uncle of the victim, was held for questioning after the child was left for their care by an aunt who reportedly attended a seminar Friday morning.
Sofia, the only child of a soldier and a public school teacher who also live on same village, was found dead covered with bushes, has bite marks on her arms and markings on her neck.
Her father is currently assigned in Marawi City while her mother teaches in a public school in Cagayan de Oro City.
Everyday, the working couple, leave Sofia to the care of the relatives who were living in the village as neighbors too.
Police investigators suspected that the child might have been strangled to death and thrown into the bushy hill side before the suspect went back to their house.
Police said the suspect denied he left the child lifeless in the mountain hill, but witnesses told the police they saw the suspect in the company of the child before the child was found dead.
The suspect’s wife, whose name was withheld, told the police that her husband asked her to buy food Friday morning.
She told the police that she noticed that the child was not in the house when she came home.
She said that immediately she sought the help of the neighbors and relatives to look for the child who was later found lifeless. -0-
