Udenna presents four big ticket projects for Davao City

ABOUT FOUR major infrastructure and logistics development projects was presented by  Udenna Corporation at the recently held Mindanao Business Forum at Seda Hotel, this city.

The Corporation's assistant vice president for operations, Engr. Manuel T. Jamonir disclosed during the said forum attended by members of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCII) that it will be a transit-oriented development where it will complement transport modes and infra development. 

He said that these high impact projects will be implemented either through Public Private Partnership (PPP) or Joint Venture (JV) even as he said that the proposed projects were submitted to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for review.

Jamonir identified one of these projects through PPP scheme with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to operate, add, transfer of the Davao International Airport for a concession period of 30 years with an estimated cost of P48.8 billion with its target for capacity augmentation to handle 15 million passengers per annum.

Included in the development, he said are construction of parallel taxiway, reconfiguration and expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building, landside and airside developments, and introduction of new airport technologies to enhance passenger experience.

Another project is the Davao People Mover (Monorail) Project still with PPP scheme with the DOTr to build, transfer, operate, maintain for a concession period of 35 years with an estimated cost of P30 billion.  Timetable of building is from 3 to 4 years period from 2021 to 2024 with the projected start of operation in 2025, he said.

He said this is Davao City's urban mass transit solution with an approximate length of 13 kilometers with 16 stations from Bangkal passing through City Hall then SM Lanang.

Udenna also proposes for the Davao Sasa Port Modernization on a joint venture with the Philippines Port Authority (PPA) for 35 years concession period with an estimated cost of P7.9 billion (Phase 1) under a construction period of 2 years from 2020 to 2022.

Program of works would include quay extension, installation of STS (ship-to-shore) cranes and other port equipment, new container yards and more ground slots, enhanced port flow and traffic management systems, and application of new systems to increase operational efficiencies.

The fourth project is the Davao Intermodal Transport Hub that will connect air, land, sea and rail travel where Jamonir said it will be the first intermodal terminal in the Philippines.

He said this is also on PPP scheme with the local government unit on management contract for a concession period of 50 years and the estimated cost of P8 billion. It will develop an Integrated Transport Terminal with commercial facilities. Construction period is for 3 years from 2020 to 2023. 

With these developments Jamonir said transoprt and traffic policies will be implemented as to public route system: trunk and feeder; the pay parking building will remove on-street parking; pedestrianization; bicycle lanes; and underground utilities.

He also said that through PPP it will encourage private sector capital/funding for public infrastructure facilities and harness inherent efficiencies of the private sector in facility operation and management.

"It also encourages innovations and modern technology and reduces risk for the public sector," he added.
