LILOY, Zamboanga del Norte – A politician was shot dead yesterday by still unidentified attackers while onboard his vehicle in Liloy town, this province, police authorities said.
Police investigators who immediately responded at the crime scene found the victim bathed in blood, and he expired a few minutes after he was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The assassin was only a meter away from his vehicle when the shooting took place, witnesses said.
Major Alexis Bahunsua, police chief of Liloy Municipality, identified the victim as Ernesto Bihag Jr., 46, incumbent councilor of Liloy town.
Investigation disclosed that around 12:50 pm Monday, Bihag was driving his vehicle from Barangay Causwagan going to Comunal, when the assassin immediately alighted from the road and overtook him, and then shot him to the vital parts, which caused his untimely demise.
After the shooting took place, the suspect immediately sped off, and the victim’s driven vehicle overshoot the shoulder of the and crashed into a Mahogany tree, it was learned.
Major Bahunsua said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the nearest hospital by attending physicians who pronounced him dead on arrival (DOA).
Meanwhile, police investigators are now conducting investigations as to the motive of the killing, but they have yet to establish the identities of the suspects. – PNA
