Thousands flock to Hinuklog 2016

Now on its sixth year, Hinuklog 2016 is an annual Lenten traditional street play depicting the Passion, Trial, Crucifixion and Death of Jesus. The town plaza, the streets were transformed into a real Roman Empire mania where 300 cast and crew composed of local parishioners and Medinanhons clad in Roman costumes performed the Passion Scenes into a real life moving tableau – scenes such as the trial of Jesus, Caiphas accusing Jesus, Pilate investigating Jesus, King Herod mocking Jesus, the freeing of Barabas and Christ to be crucified, the washing of the hands of Pontius Pilate, the Scourging at the Pillar, carrying of the Cross of Jesus, Simon of Cyrene helping Jesus carry his Cross, Judas commiting suicide, Jesus falling three times, the Cry of the Women of Jerusalem, Veronica wiping the face of Jesus, the Seven Last Words and the Death of Jesus on the Cross.

During the pre-presentation press conference, the Mayor Ken Nino Uyguangco told this paper that Hinuklog 2016 is setting a trend for the tourism industry in the municipality of Medina as it will bring foreign, domestic and local tourists to the town and help boost its economic growth. Investors will pour their investments and help develop the economic growth of the locality.

It was learned devotees came as far as Albay, Bohol, Ozamis City, Kidapawan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Bohol, Butuan, Surigao, Cotabato, General Santos City, Manila, Bukidnon and other parts of the country.

In the tail end of 1978, the Teens Theater Association was organized which was being supported by the Kagayan Oro Theater Association (KOTA) through the able support of Edibel Villarando, Neil Stokie, Boy Nick Pilapil and Joselito Tiro, Jr. and under the leadership of Luz Reyes as President and Production Manager. It was revived in 2010 through the initiative of then Mayor Pacifico Pupos Jr.. With his efforts being supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) with the warm support of Mr. Felimon Blanco, Mindanao Representative to the National Commission for Dramatic Arts (NCCA), came the birth of Lumadnong Magdudula sa Medina (Lumagmed).

The casts were then given the proper trainings in theater and the arts-workshops on community theaters which made them great performers. Edu Doremon, a trisikad driver, reprised his role as Jesus Christ. The production team really has made a great street show under the leadership of Rodrigo Edjesca – chairman, Raul Barcelona – production manager, and Allan Barcelona – executive producer.
