CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental, April 25 – An underage female NPA and two Milisyang Bayan (MBs) members of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) surrendered to the 58th Infantry Battalion Headquarters in Sitio Migbanday, Poblacion, Claveria town, Misamis Oriental last Holy Thursday, April 18.
The three surrenderees were alias Charmy, 17 years old, member of HQF Nelsay of Sub-Regional Committee 1; @Reck, 19 years old, MB of SRC1; and @Jems, 23 years old, MB of SRC1. All three former rebels are residents of Sitio Anahaw, Barangay Bantaawan, Gingoog City.
@Charmy claimed that hardship and hunger within the NPA organization is unbearable and is multiplied by the fear every time there are military operations within Lantad-Balatukan Complex.
She further claimed that they want to clear their names and live peacefully especially now that Lantad-Balatukan is relatively peaceful because of the help of 58IB and government services can now freely reach the far-flung communities within the complex.
“The 3 FRs (former rebels) who recently surrendered to 58IB shows that NPA Terrorists continue to violate the provisions of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) by exploiting and recruiting minors like @Charmy. We and the leadership of the Province of Misamis Oriental will protect the rights and secure the future of these FRs who will be enrolled under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), said 58IB commanding officer Ltc Roy Anthony O Derilo as he called on other NPAs and their leaders to give peace in Misamis Oriental a chance.
He likewise urged local chief executives to push socio-economic development and services to the conflict-affected areas where their constituents needed government services so badly.
The military tactical gains and sacrifices in the province, he said, are worth nothing if socio-economic development does not follow through.
