BY CRIS DIAZ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The lone suspect, who run over and killed one of the bystanders in the Taguanao Bridge here early Monday morning, Oct. 10, 2022, sent surrender feelers, the police said Thursday.

Lt. Col. Ivan Viñas, the spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City police, said that Stephen Nery, 27, the suspect in the Taguanao Bridge road rage sent surrender feelers as law enforcers stepped up the hunt for his arrest.

Viñas said that criminal charges would be filed this week after the lawyer of the complainant asked for a review of the case filed by the police Monday.

Killed in the incident was Paul John Levita, 27. Injured was the victim’s younger brother Rufus, who were both run over by the suspect’s car — a Hyundai Accent, color black with plate number KAB 1246.

Witnesses told the police that prior to the incident, the group of the victim and the suspect was having a separate drinking session in Taguanao Bridge.

It was not known who started the hooting, which led to bottle throwing among the group that resulted in the fatal ending.

Viñas said that the suspect fled with his car after the incident to an unknown destination and has been an object of manhunt since Monday, Oct. 10, 2022.

Viña said that it would be better for Nery to surrender before a warrant is issued for his arrest.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy has directed the police to expedite the resolution of the case and ordered the strict banning of drinking in public places. -0-
