Sulu clash killed 4 Abu Sayyaf leader, combatants

JOLO, Sulu – A leader of the most wanted Abu Sayyaf Group, inclding three of their combabants, were killed in action while forcing themselves to provoke an exchange of bullets, the military announced Monday.  

The slain leader of the ASG was identified as Injam Yadah. This leader of the famous extremist group in Southern Philippines played a key role in the reported kidnaping of 5 Indonesian fishermen in Malaysian waters last January 16th.

The bandit group killed one of the Indonesian fishermen while in the hinterlands of Sulu, and while the military troops also successfully rescued  the other four fishermen in March, this year somewhere in Tawitawi area.

Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, commander of the 11th Infantry Division, said the clash between ASG group and the government took place around 2am last Sunday, June 13.

Gonzales said the firefight began when the group of Yadah opened fire at government troops when they were about to serve a warrant of arrest against Yadah, which they also returned fire.

He also said one of the slain followers of Yadah was a certain Al-al Sawadjaan, the youngest brother of infamous ASG bomber Mundi Sawadjaan. Other comrades slain th battle were also known as a certain Rauf. while other are yet to be known.

After the rebels retreated to unknown directions, the pursuing government troops recovered M653 Carbine rifle, caliber .45 pistol, bomb-making components, and 15 mobile phones.

“We’ve long been on the hunt for Yadah, he has a reputation of being extremely violent–beheading captured innocent civilians and security forces alike. Finally, his hideous acts will now come to a full stop,” Gonzales said.
