Song writer Tommy Galo: ‘Untouched gold’ in the music industry

WHOEVER KNOW THIS great composer based in Cagayan de Oro would certainly say that Tommy Galo is like an “untouched bar of gold” as far as the music industry is concerned.

Can you imagine this guy has already composed and recorded 112 original songs? And yet, he’s not discovered by record producers, not even Youtube and Facebook, or any other social media pages, where he could have started earning out of the great original songs he’s been composing for his own singers.

One of the very promising songs he composed is entitled “Walang Imposible” interpreted by Virgie Dapz and it’s now gaining ground in the airwaves.

The people have started to listen to the song and admired the singer for her beautiful rendition of “Walang Imposible,” an upbeat kind of music that touches the heart of everyone falling in love to someone they thought not mean to them.

HUMBLE BEGINNING

Tomianong “Tommy” P. Galo was born and raised in Marawi City. He studied elementary and high school, and lived there, during the glory days of his homeland.

“I am Mr. Tomianong P. Galo or Tommy Galo, a CPA and a graduate from Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan. I started singing since high school but began to start songwriting and making melodies in September 2019 and in 2 years, I have composed 112 songs. Almost all my original songs were sung and recorded by my chosen singers. I am a government employee and work at Bureau of internal Revenue, rdo99, Malaybalay City as Chief of Assessment section. My wife is also at Bureau of Internal Revenue, rdo98, Cagayan de Oro City. I have 6 children and three of them are now professionals.”

“My family was originally from Marawi City. I schooled and lived there during my elementary and high school days, ” Tommy recalls, as he reminisced the golden days of his hometown back in the old times.

Tommy added that when he pursued his college education, that’s the time that his family moved here in Cagayan de Oro and allowed him to enroll at Xavier University, Ateneo de Cagayan, where he took up a degree in Accountancy, and later became a professional certified public accountant (CPA).

TALENT IN MUSIC

When Tommy was still in his primary education, he said he was already inclined to music, adding that he’s been attending song competitions and music festivals, purposely to honed himself into becoming a great singer at th right timing and time.

“In schools back then, I was joining contests, with the hope of not only entertaining the students, but also start earning money for my own expenses

“Bata pa ko mahilig na gyud ko sa music. Pero niadtong panahuna sa akong kabatan-on dli pako kabalo mo-compose of song.” Late bloomer man ko, so medyo may edad na nga nahilig nako mag compose ug mga kanta,” he said.

He said there was even a time that he stopped singing and concentrate his new career as a CPA. But it was his wife who convinced him to go back to music and composing songs.

GOVERNMENT CAREER

Mr Tommy Galo worked in the government many years ago and until at present, after he graduated in college and became a certified public accountant (CPA).

Currently, the singer-composer is the chief of the assessment section at the Bureau of Internal Revenue District 99. (RDO-99) based in Malaybalay City, in Bukidnon.

“Although I was assigned in Malaybalay City but I still lived in Cagayan de Oro City with my family,” Galo said.

“So, every time the office has a special program especially during Christmas, I usually give entertainment and sung my original compositions because they liked it.”

TOMMY’S DREAM

The talented composer said he’s been dreaming that someday his original music pieces will become internationally-recognized.

“I hope my music pieces will be recognized by the music industry and if this happens I will be among the happy-ist composers around the world,” Tommy said.

He said right now he’s been doing the music album with 14 cuts on 6 of his current 11 singers. “Yes, I am busy right now doing albums for my six singers namely: Ivory lyrics, Genesis Glimar, Jophil T. Cece, Barby Ann Elbambo, Virgie Dapz and Jawwada Macatangcop.
