CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: One of the arrested suspects in the gun slaying of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo was a former close-in security of a lawmaker in Cagayan de Oro City.

Army Sgt. Joric Labrador was detailed as close-in security of Cagayan de Oro City Cong. Rufus Rodriguez for three years before Rodriguez terminated Labrador services in 2014.

‘Sgt Labrador was detailed to me from 4th ID for around three years. I terminated Labrador detail in 2014 because he (Labrador) was involved in illegal drugs,” Rodriguez told MDN Monday.

Maj. Francisco Garello, head of the army’s public affairs division in Camp Evangelista here, said that Labrador also went absent without official leave (AWOL) in 2014.

He said that Labrador was assigned with army’s 4ID Military Intelligence Battalion (MIB) with adequate military training in intelligence and close quarter battle (CQB).

Labrador was arrested, together with two others, in less than 12-hour in a hot pursuit after an attacking and killing Gov Degamo in his residence in Pamplona, Negros Oriental that left nine dead and 16 others wounded.

The two other suspects were identified as Joven Aber, 42, from Barangay Robles, La Castellana in Negros Occidental; and Benjie Rodriguez, 45, from Bonifacio, Misamis Occidental. The three were intercepted at Sitio Punong, Cansumalig. -0-
