CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City: Two aspiring candidates were wounded when an unidentified sniper fired at a Christmas Party of the PDP-Laban political party in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental Wednesday night.
Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, the spokesperson of the police regional command here, on Thursday identified the wounded as Jason Almonte, a candidate for Congressman of Missmis Occidental’s 1st District and an incumbent Lopez Jaena town Mayor Michael Guiterrez, a candidate for Vice-Governor of Misamis Occidental.
Olaivar said that Almonte sustained a shrapnel wound on the nape while Guiterrez was hit on the left temple with the bullet exiting on his nape.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Misamis University Medical Center, Ozamis City where they were given first aid and were later transported to Mars General Hospital in Ozamis City for the operation, Olaivar said.
She said that the victims, together with incumbent Cong. Henry Oaminal, Sr., of Misamis Occidental Second District, were attending a joint Christmas party of the PDP-Laban and Asenso Ozamis, a local political party, in a Business Center near a gas Sitio Pulao, Brgy. 7, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental when the shooting took place. Oaminal was unharmed.
An initial investigation disclosed that a sniper fire was heard, the bullet hitting the frame of the glass door and the splinter hitting the nape of Almonte while the bullet’s slug hit Guiterrez on the left temple, which exited to the nape.
Olaivar said the police were conducting follow up investigation to identify the suspect and find out the motive of the shooting. -0-
