SK to get honoraria, civil service eligibility

BY CRIS DIAZ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials honoraria and allowances as well as appropriate certificates of civil service eligibility, Deputy Speaker and Cagayan de Oro Congressman Rufus Rodriguez said Wednesday.

He said that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law Republic Act (RA)11768,  which he authored in response to the request of SK leaders of Cagayan de Oro and  proposed by the delegates of VOX Young Leaders’ Parliament.

Under the new law, members of the SK, including the treasurer and secretary, will receive a monthly honorarium in addition to any other pay they now receive.

Rodriguez did not mention the exact amount of the honorarium of the SK members but  hinted that the amount must not be more than the SK chairperson’s monthly remuneration or more than 25% of the SK funds.

The SK Federation President, being a member of the City Council, receives a renumeration equivalent

to Salary Grade 24 or a monthly compensation of P 86,742.00

Local government units may also provide the SK chairperson and other elected and appointed members of the SK council with additional compensation, social welfare payments, and hazard allowance through local legislation.

Parts of RA 10742 were changed by RA 11768, including the provision granting only the SK chairpersons an honorarium.

SK officials shall also be entitled to other benefits, such as:

• exemption from the National Service Training Program

• being excused from attending classes while appearing in regular or special SK meetings and special Sangguniang Barangay sessions, in the case of the chairperson, and be provided with PhilHealth coverage. -0-
