DETERMINED TO SUCCEED. Judy Ann Seco’s determination to succeed pays off as she graduated Cum Laude during a virtual graduation held last August 10, 2020.

Judy Ann C. Seco, 21-year-old resident of Barangay Saksak, Danao City, graduated Cum Laude on her Bachelor of Secondary Education, major in English course, during a virtual graduation held last August 10, 2020.

Judy Ann was the 6th of nine siblings. She was born on April 29, 1999 by her parents, Julieta Seco and Geronimo Seco, also of Danao City.

Due to hardships and poverty Judy Ann went into selling siomai during her spare time in order to help herself sustain her education. Although she had a scholarship but the boarding house rent, food and other miscellaneous expenses were a great challenge in pursuing her dream.

“Lisod gyud kaayo sir ang mag skwela ka unya mag-sideline pamaligya ug siomai pero giantus nako para akong matabangan ang akong pamilya nga mahaw-as sa tumang kalisod,” she narrated.

She said her parents are only farmers and they live on a hand-to-mouth kind of life. “Kun unsa ray makita sa akong ginikanan, mao rapud to among pasiguan sa usa ka adlaw. Grabe jud kalisod sir ilabina kay daghan mi managsuon. Busa naningkamot jud ko maka eskwela.”

HARDSHIPS AS A WORKING STUDENT

Judy Ann was proud that she was a siomai vendor aside from being a college student. “Wala gyud nako ikaulaw sir nga gapamaligya ko siomai sa plaza kay unsaon pobre man me kaayo.”

She said there were times that her siomai weren’t sold during rainy days, and she went home sad but always hopeful that after the rain comes another sunshine.

When asked how does she feels if her teacher or classmates saw her selling siomai at the plaza, she answers, “Sa primero sir medyo ko maulaw pero naanad nako kadugayan ug mas dako akong halin if daghan classmates maka adto sa plaza kay magtapok ug mamalit man sila,” she proudly narrated to MDN.

She said there was even a time when her school’s Dean saw her at the plaza but the school’s Dean admired her fighting spirit and inspired her that soon her determination and hardship will pay off.

“Medyo jud ko gibati ug kaulaw sir sa dihang nakita ug miduol siya nako kay nakaila man siya. Apan ako nalang gihuna-huna nga  maabot ra gihapon nako ang kalampusan, ug pag abot sa panahon dili nako mamaligya ug siomai.”

FAILURE BEFORE SUCCESS

Judy Ann also narrated during a phone interview with MDN that she also experienced failures in life especially after graduating from high school.

In 2015, she said, she applied for a scholarship from the City Government of Danao but she did not make it.

“Naguol gyud kaayo ko sir kay mao ra unta to akong paglaum nga makatuloy ko sa college. Pero unsaon man nabagsak man ko sa scholarship examination,” Judy Ann lamented.

Since she did not pass the scholarship examination and had to stop schooling, Judy Ann decided to work as househelp to help support her family.

“Misulod ko ug katabang kay dili man gyud ko makapadayon ug eskwela niadtong tungora sir. Apan wala ko nagpakawala sa paglaum nga maka eskwela ra gihapon sa college.”

FINALLY, SUCCESS

In 2016, the young dreamer, Judy Ann applied for a college sholarship examination in another school and luckily passed. Her ultimate dream to finish college has seen light again when she passed said college scholarship examination.

But this time, luck was already on her side and she also passed her second take at Danao City Government scholarship examiantion.

“Pwerte jud nakong lipaya sir kay at last nakapasar na gyud ko sa Danao City Government nga scholarship program. Ug naka-desisyon akong parents nga sa Danao City rako mag school kay layo kaayo tong isa ka school nga napasaran nako.”

WORD OF THANKS

Judy Ann thanked everyone, who in one way or the other, help her succeed in her education with flying colors. She also thanked her parents, and above all, the Lord Almighty for giving her the success that she really deserves.
