Silver medalist Carlo Paalam needs operation says Coach Pamisa

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The boxing coach of Cagayan de Oro’s pride Carlo Paalam told the media that Carlo needs an immediate operation as he’s been complaining of pain from the injuries in his right hand as well as on his shoulder.

Coach Elmer Pamisa, Carlo’s long-time coach in his early days in boxing told a local radio station Bombo Radyo that the silver medalist of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics got his injury during the semi-final fight against Olympian Ryomei Tanaka from Japan.

Pamisa said that even before Paalam and the gold medalist boxer from Great Britain started their ‘gold medal match in the final, the young boxer from this city has already been complaining of pain from his injury.

But despite his injury, Pamisa said, the young boxer still showed his brave heart and agility in the ring that he even dominated in succeeding rounds against his fast and intimidating opponent Galal Yafai. Only that they failed to conquer the point deficit from the TKO in the first round.

Pamisa said Carlo is a professional boxer with a passion for boxing so that despite enduring pains in his injured right hand and back he still gave it all, only that the hungry boxer from Great Britain caught him up in the first round. Had Carlo not TKOd in the first round, he could have won the gold in a said boxing match, the coach said.

Carlo Paalam settled for silver but still, it was a great honor and pride to the country that’s been aiming for the very elusive gold since 1924 or barely 96 years in the history of the Olympics.

The city’s boxing pride was the youngest Olympian at 23 sent by the Philippine Olympic Team in Tokyo Japan.
