But make no mistake about it, Sharmaine’s is the best in its kind since no less than the owner herself is a hands-on pastry chef who graduated from the reputable Enderun Colleges.
At the tender age of 24, Sharmaine Lim Lo Suy decided to leave the family business for a while and pursue her childhood passion – pastry making.
“I used to be with my lola’s side when we had a bakery in barangay Puntod back then. It was then that I fell in love with pastry and I diligently learned how to make cakes with my lola and appreciate her craft,” Sharmaine quipped.
Back then, Sharmaine’s grandmom would bake mamon and other sweet delicacies for her bakery.
That was in Sharmaine’s elementary days.
Upon graduating from high school, Sharmaine took a one-year vacation in New Zealand. It was there that she made up her mind in pursuing her childhood passion. And so the 18-year-old took up entrepreneurship at Enderun Colleges, unarguably the best culinary educational institution in the Philippines.
Yet crafting her own business took delicately slow. It was only this November or two years upon graduating that Sharmaine finally decided to put up Sharmaine’s Cakes & Pastries – fulfilling her family’s legacy in entrepreneurship and at the same time realizing her passion in making her own cake shop.
Sharmaine’s Cakes & Pastries is located at Antonio Luna St. just across Vicente Roa St.
With the shop now in operation for almost two months already, it retains a stunningly high number of customers (both dining and on-the-go) even though Sharmaine’s is not situated in a mall.
Sharmaine’s signature caramel tres leches came directly from the grandmom of Sharmaine’s recipe. Other cakes available which are all Sharmaine’s original creations are carrot cake, coffee mousse, red velvet, dark chocolate, triple chocolate cake, carrot cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake and Oreo cheesecake. They are available whole or in slices.
To complement the sweets, they offer coffee, tea, frappes (café mocha, salted caramel, white chocolate mocha, Oreo cheesecake, matcha, strawberry) and iced tea.
They say that a diner’s appearance must complement the food that it serves. The interiors of Sharmaine’s Cakes & Pastries is just that, thanks to the exquisite interiors done by Urban Spaces by Ayen Chiong.
Sharmaine’s Cakes & Pastries is open Mondays to Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Fridays to Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
