“Save the Children Philippines” stays in Marawi to help kids recover from trauma

“Save the Children Philippines” and “Insular Foundation” worked hand in hand in emulating the kids regarding the value of education and what it can give them if they continue their studies, despite of the trauma they have encountered during the skirmishes between the government and ISIS-linked terror groups headed by Muslim fighters in the area.

The tragic event brought trauma to the kids and in order to help them go back to education, an intervention from the government agencies as well as in partnership with the private sectors, would be a great help to start their lives again – full of hope and determination to succeed through educating themselves.

During Valentine’s Day, the kids received learning kits and school supplies from Insular Foundation and Save the Children Philippines. Those schools that benefited from the activity were catchment schools from Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

“The effect of war on children is far worse than on adults because they are physically weaker,” said Albert Muyot, chief executive officer of Save The Children Philippines.

Based on data gathered from reliable sources, a total of 28,856 out 62,000 displaced learners do not have exact records and authorities assumed they have enrolled in other schools and universities in any part of the country.

Muyot sadly reiterated that the children were being manipulated by muslim rebels and later used them to become combatants, while the schools, report said, were being used as training grounds. – with reports from JCE
