The presidential daughter confirmed the announcement following an interview with Mayor Christina Frasco, the mayor of Liloan, and her spokesperson.
“What I am sure of is that, whatever Mayor Frasco said, I can confirm that,” Duterte told reporters.
Sara also revealed to the media that her brother, VM Sebastian Duterte, is also seeking re-election in the upcoming national and local elections next year.
“As agreed between party members, Vice-Mayor Baste will be the overall organizing person for the joint campaign of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) and Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL),” the mayor said.
On Wednesday, Mayor Sara also called on the people to extend their “strongest support” to her father’s vice presidential bid.
Sara said she has decided not to run for presidency, after her father formally proclaimed his willingness to seek the VP position, as standard bearer of the ruling party, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban)
“We have a good agreement with President Duterte in our respective political careers. Let us give him our strongest support for his decision to run for Vice President,” Mayor Sara said in a video message posted on social media.
But a grand alliance supporting Sara for president has appealed to the PPRD not to run for presidency to give his daughter a chance to become the leader of the nation.
“At this critical juncture in our country’s history, we need to choose the next generation of leaders. And we just want your daughter, Mayor Sara, to become our national leader like you. We admire and appreciate both of you saying only one Duterte can run in the forthcoming elections,” the grand alliance said.
