Rotary groups lead bloodletting activity in CDO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, together with Rotary Club of Carmen Valley, and Rotary CDO Spouses hold a bloodletting activity dubbed, Dugo Mo, Kinabuhi Ko, wherein a total of 700 prospect blood donors participated.

This is in partnership with Philippine National Police, PhilHealth, Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and COC-Phinma where the goal is to boost and support the blood shortage in the region.

The Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC), a government hospital in Northern Mindanao, will be the recipient of the blood collected from the activity.

Gerry Caño of Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro said the goal is to help hospitals, especially NMMC, to boost their blood supply.

“We initiated this program because we believe maraming mga kababayan tayong nandiyan sa mga pribadong hospital at pampublikong hospital, na kahit libre ang binibigay na serbisyo ng ating gobyerno, problema pa rin ang availability ng ating dugo,” he said.

(We initiated this program because we believe there are many of our compatriots in private hospitals and public hospitals, that even though the services provided by our government are free, the availability of our blood is still a problem)

Caño recognized the shortage of blood in blood banks. According to him, almost every day there is a shortage, especially those patients who undergo an operation.

Meanwhile, Ma. Julie Anne Encila, 18, student of COC-Phinma and a blood donor, said not only does it cleanse your own body but donating blood also helps save lives.

“Dapat mag-donate og dugo dili lang para sa kaugalingon pero para sa makatabang sa uban (Donate blood not only for yourself but also to help others),” she said. (JMOR/PIA-10)
