VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon – Hundreds of elementary pupils at Bantal Elem School in Valencia City, Bukidnon benefitted from “Project HEART,” which is one of the flagship projects of the Rotary Club of Central Bukidnon.
The project, which is already in its 6th year, helps the pupils by way of a feeding program and distribution of school items since the school year has already started again last month. It carries a theme “Gamit Eskwela at Tsinelas Handog Namin sa Inyo at Wastong Nutrisyon para sa Malusog na Kabataan Feeding Program.”
Venus Bahalla Morales, President for the Rotary Year 2023-2024, in her report explained that Project HEART is a service project of the Rotary Club of Central Bukidnon. She said “HEART means Help Educate and Advocate Reading Time, and its currently on its 6th year.
She said Past President Felicia L. Borja was the first project chair, and she introduced the concept of helping children to acquire reading skills. “This Rotary Year 2023-2024 our objective is to help inspire the children and motivate them to study their lesson and pursue their dreams. Hence, the project of giving school supplies and slippers as proposed by the present project chair, Rotarian Mona Marie A. Cerdeñola was approved and included in the club’s plans, programs and activities.”
The beneficiaries for this year were the 121 pupils of Bantal Elementary School which comprise the Kindergarten and Grade 1-3 level. However, there was a burning desire to provide more services, to include Grade 4-6 by providing a supplemental feeding to all children enrolled in Bantal Elementary School, Morales said.
On September 13, 2023, the Rotary Club of Central Bukidnon conducted the joint service project activity under Basic Education and Literacy area of focus dubbed as “Gamit Eskwela at Tsinelas Handog Namin sa Inyo”, while the Maternal and Child Health project was dubbed as, “Wastong Nutrisyon para sa Malusog na Kabataan” feeding program which catered 250 school children.
“RCCB would like to extend our profound gratitude to all the project partners and sponsors especially to Mr. Dandy Batusin ALS District Coordinator of District 10, to Mr. Junie P. Flores the Elementary School Head Teacher and to the teachers of Bantal Elementary School who shared their resources, time and support. Twenty One (21) Rotarians, 4 Rotaractos and 20 KALIPI Valencia members were also present during the activity, each one has made a significant contribution in taking action to Create Hope in the World,” Morales said in her report.
