Rodriguez asks P21.5-M funds from DOH to upgrade health centers in CdeO second district

Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez attended the budget hearing of the Department of Health (DOH) headed by OIC Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire last September 12 at the Nograles Hall, Batasan, Quezon City.

Rodriguez thanked the DOH for their unstinting medical assistance beyond the call of duty to the Filipino people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The DOH officials and employees who were our dedicated medical frontliners are our modern-day heroes,” Rodriguez stressed.

During the hearing, he expressed his concern about the proposed 2023 budget of DOH, including the attached agencies and corporations, which only amounts to P301 billion. He said this may not be enough for the medical and health needs of 109 million Filipinos.

The CdeO lawmaker lamented the fact that the proposed P345 billion budget was slashed by P44 billion.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez requested Sec. Vergeire to submit a list of priority items for DOH to meet the health requirements of the people for possible augmentation of its budget.

He likewise requested for the construction/upgrading of health facilities in the second district of CdeO under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP):

  1. Barangay F.S. Catanico – P2.5 Million
  2. Barangay Puntod – P 2.5 Million
  3. Barangay Consolacion – P2.5 Million
  4. Barangay 24 – P2.5 Million
  5. Barangay Balubal – P2.5 Million
  6. Barangay Balubal Super Health Center – P9 Million
    Total: P21.5 Million

Sec. Vergeire assured Rep. Rodriguez that the requested P21.5 million for the 2nd district of Cagayan de Oro will be included in the 2023 budget of the DOH.

Rodriguez then moved for the approval of the P301 Billion budget of DOH plus an augmentation of the priority programs and projects as requested and submitted by DOH to the Committee on Appropriations.
