Road clearing ops resume in Iligan

The implementation of the government’s road clearing operations (RCO) in Iligan City resumes this month, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) here.

“We issued a communication to all barangay officials to inform them that per Circular issued by the DILG, the road clearing operations will again start effective the first week of December,” DILG City Director Edward Bhagwani announced during the City Peace and Order Council meeting held earlier this month.

He said that per DILG memorandum circular, areas under the modified general community quarantine status will fully implement the road clearing while areas under the general community quarantine will have partial implementation or 75% of the total area for road clearing.

‘We are directing all urban barangays to impose road clearing operations in their respective areas. We will be sending them pictures of existing road obstructions and that will be the basis of their performance,” he added.

Bhagwani also assured the barangays that they can seek assistance from the Iligan City Police Office to send personnel to assist in the demolition especially in those areas where the owners are “consistently refusing to self-demolish.”

He reiterated that barangays have until January 15, 2021, to comply with the DILG directive.

“By January, we will be implementing the evaluation. It will also be the basis of grading the city government’s performance regarding the road clearing operations,” he added.

The RCO was launched in 2019 to clear roads of obstruction in a bid to help ease traffic congestion and bring back order to streets. (APB/PIA-ICIC)
