Q & A with Oro’s Fav Artist Edgardo R. Palad (Part 1)

Q & A with Oro’s Fav Artist

The Artsada Kagay-an, a group of artists in Cagayan de Oro, is slated to hold another art exhibit at Limketkai Mall this August 1-30, 2021.

Art collectors and enthusiasts are going to expect another milestones as new art pieces will be on display for this second wave of artwork exhibit for another one month, this year, at the second floor of the biggest mall in Northern Mindanao.

To give us a clearer vision of the upcoming collaborations of the city’s top-notch visual and abstract artists, we have prepared questions to Artist Edgardo Rivero Palad, in behalf of the group.

Question : Your art exhibit on May 1-30, this year was very successful. Tell us more about your upcoming August 2021 art exhibit?

Ed Palad :  Ever since I joined way back in 2014, my group ARTSADA KAGAY-AN has been consistent in giving Cagayan de Oro a regular visual arts exhibit every two to three months. Our goal in doing this is to make Cagayanons aware that here in our city visual arts is alive and flourishing. Having been exposed to gallery exhibits here and abroad, I made it my personal mission to make sure our  exhibit presentation is at par with those you see in Metropolitan cities like Manila, Cebu & Davao. We strive to up the ante each time and never rest on the laurels of our last exhibit. We always promise to show exciting new works and happily we always deliver on that commitment.

Question : You have chosen the same mall for this second wave of art exhibit, why?

Ed Palad : LIMKETKAI Management through the kindness of it’s owners and exhibit-in charge MS. ANNIE GALLARDO has been very  helpfull, supportive & accomodating of ARTSADA KAGAYAN ever since . We cannot thank them enough for their kindless. Nontheless, we are not closing our doors to any exhibit invitation from Ayala or SM Malls. As a matter of fact, we have exhibited at Ayala Mall on invitation of my good friend HAMMER ROA  & Ms. CARINA KARAGDAG. We have also exhibited in AYALA Cebu on invitation of Ms. STELLA MARI. We even went to Tagbilaran, Bohol for a group exhibit on invitation of Mayor Yap. Invite us and we promise you a show-stopping exhibit, an ARTSADA KAGAY-AN trademark.

Question : Do you think you will gain more art collectors if you use Limketkai Mall as the venue than other good venues in the city?

Ed Palad : In all ARTSADA KAGAY-AN  exhibits I personally took charge of, I introduced the concept of inviting a Special Guests of Honor to do ribbon cutting officially opening the exhibit to the general public. I usually invite known art collectors & avowed art patrons the likes of businessman MR. & MRS. ELPIDIOPARAS & wife ROSE, SEN. JOSE MIGUEL ZUBIRI, Cardio Specialist- Surgeon RENATO ALAGADAN, CONG. JULIETTE UY & daughter MAYOR JENNY UY-MENDEZ, former CONG. JESUS PARAS & wife CONSUELO, Contractor ENGR. EARL NAVARRO & his Multi-Businesswoman beautiful wife ARRISSA NAVARRO, low-key CUMC Pres. ROSALINDA DELESTE, glamorous OB-GYNE Specialist DRA. QUEENIE SALCEDO-QUIÑO, top notch OPTHA Surgeon DR. CARLO ROMERO, Hotelier-Businessman VICENTE GOTIL, Fashion Icon & Beauty Maker Ms. MAGS CUE, Health & Fitness Guru Ms. JULIE ANG, KAG. GIGI GO, Banker Ms. ROENA BINCE, Iron Lady & Review Center Owner- CEO Ms. MARIVIC YAMIT TABASAN to name a few.  Our artists members dress up for the occassion & put their best foot forward. I believe in correct packaging to impress and be credible. A catered Buffet Cocktails  completes the ensemble. I make sure it’s worth the time of my invited guests. They happily take home several art pieces with them to hang in their walls, where ever ARTSADA KAGAY-AN may exhibit, the signature & tradition of excellence will always be our trademark. Coupled by the outstanding works of our Artists Members, this formula has never failed us.

Question : We know very well that paintings are hard to sell, much more in this trying times of coronavirus scare. How do you cope up with the challenges of the pandemic?

Ed Palad : The Pandemic Times has indeed dealt a big blow to the Visual Arts Industry. But this holds true not only to us but to every other Business Industry as well. Not only locally but internationally all over the world as well. The dark cloud of uncertainty & gloom has dawned on us. We at ARTSADA KAGAY-AN resolve to remain undaunted & positive. All these scenarios of doom are temporary and will come to pass in HIS time. Like they say there is calm every after the storm. Light every after darkness. Hope every after trials & tribulations. we hold on to that. All these are temporary setbacks we can hurdle if we think positive, hold on to our dreams tight, pursue our aspirations with fervor & perseverance and believe that together as one group, we will and can overcome.

In the meantime, the lull even gives us more time to paint & improve our craft, develop new techniques, experiment in new strokes, mixtures & approaches. The mind is a motherlode of amazingly brilliant ideas waiting to be discovered and brought to fore. In time we go back to normal, we have more artworks to show & be proud of. Our patrons & collectors has more paintings to chose from. If at all The PANDEMIC has taught us to be more resilient, more compromising, more inventive. There is a rebirth in all of us for the better. For as long as we are alive we can hope and we can dream.
