PVAO hopes for full implementation of cagayan de oro city’s burial assistance to kagay-anon veterans

The Cagayan de Oro City has always supported the Kagay-anon veterans by championing for their welfare and perpetuating their heroic deeds. One of the initiatives from the City Government that the Filipino Veterans Community is truly appreciative of was the passage of the City Ordinance No. 10257- 2006, which was later amended by City Ordinance No. 10597-2007, that granted a burial assistance of PhP 10,000 to veterans who are members of the city’s Office of the Veterans Affairs and are residents of Cagayan de Oro. This was a welcome addition to the PhP 20,000 burial assistance being provided by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office given to the family of the deceased Filipino veteran to help them defray funeral costs.

It is therefore disheartening to learn of the recent events pertaining to the non-implementation of the City Ordinance that provides much-needed burial assistance to the 11 Kagay-anon veterans who passed recently. The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office and the whole Filipino Veterans Community is hopeful that the City Government will be able to fully implement the City Ordinance and provide our Kagay-anon veterans and their families the benefit they rightly deserve. We also hope that such incident will never happen again to our Kagay-anon veterans especially as any form of support to the veterans translate to recognizing their service and sacrifices for the country.

PVAO would also like to thank Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Romeo Calizo and everyone who helped in bringing into light the recent incident and for continuously supporting our Kagay-anon veterans. May we never tire of speaking up for our veterans and ensuring their welfare and well-being.
