Promoting welfare of workers and families through DOLE’s FWP

As part of its mission to protect the workers and their welfares, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) continuously promotes its Family Welfare Program (FWP) which also covers the welfare of family members. FWP’s main concept is to instill family planning and welfare consciousness as a key in workplace productivity and improved worker-management relations.

In Davao Region, DOLE XI consistently promotes the implementation of FWP among establishments employing more than 200 workers. As of this writing, DOLE XI has identified 137 establishments across the region that implements FWP in the workplace for the well-being of 56,803 workers.

The best practices of various establishments that implement FWP were documented by the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC) during its visit in the region on October 24-28, 2022.

Among the notable workplace initiatives was the Kaibigan Fellowship of Dole Philippines, Inc. that
promotes spirituality, community outreach activities, and learning and development among workers. The Money Assistance Program of Next BPO Solutions, Inc. for employees’ financial needs, especially during calamities and health emergency, with no interest. Also, the Tech Initiatives of Therma Marine, Inc. that invests in technological capabilities of its employees through learning and development.

All these initiatives are in line with FWP’s 10 dimensions which also serve as a guide in implementing theprogram. These are the Reproductive Health and Responsible Parenthood, Education and Gender Equality, Spirituality or Values Formation, Income Generation, Medical Health Care, Nutrition, Environment Protection, Hygiene, and Sanitation, Sports and Leisure, Housing, and Transportation.

“We continue to advocate for the integration of FWP into the organization management as a factor in building up productive capacity of workers as well as reinforcing industrial peace. We also hope that the best FWP practices of these companies can be replicated by others, even those that employ less than 200 workers,” said Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy.

The BWSC and the regional office ensure the full implementation of the FWP in partnership with concerned government agencies, employers’ groups, worker organizations, and other development partners.
