PPCC convenes to strengthen price monitoring of basic necessities

TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, Mar. 20 (PIA) — The Provincial Price Coordinating Council (PPCC) convened an emergency meeting to discuss Republic Act 7581 or The Price Act, and its amendment Republic Act 10623, as the legal basis in implementing strict monitoring and regulation of basic necessities and prime commodities in response to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's  Presidential Proclamation 922 (Declaring a State of Public Health Emergency throughout the Philippines)  and Presidential Proclamation 929 (Declaring a State of Calamity throughout the Philippines due to Corona Virus Disease 2019).
With the combined effort of the members of the PPCC, prices of basic necessities and prime commodities in Lanao del Norte will be closely monitored to prevent and control the increase of prices and discourage businesses to take advantage of the emergency.
The PPCC will not only monitor the increase of prices but also those who are hoarding and colluding with each other to have control of the prices, especially on basic necessities and prime commodities.
RA 7581, and its amendment, RA 10623, was created to stabilize the prices of essentials and prime commodities, as well as prescribing measures against undue price increase by providing penalties or sanctions against businesses that are violating the law.
As its basic policy, it will ensure that there will be adequate supply and reasonable prices will be properly imposed, including the protection of consumers against profiteering, hoarding, and business cartel.
Governor Dimaporo with the unanimous decision of the council members has agreed that frequent monitoring will be conducted and reporting will be done every Friday of the week.
The meeting was held at the Governor's Conference Room in Governor Arsenio A. Quibranza Provincial Government Center, Pigcarangan, Tubod, on March 19, 2020. (PIO-LDN)
