Police identifies person of interest in MisOcc shooting

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The regional police command on Sunday disclosed that law enforcers were tracking down “persons of interest” in connection with the shooting that wounded two political figures during a Christmas Party in Tangub, Misamis Occidental five days ago.

“The police investigators were not ready yet to disclose the identity of the suspect (s) pending arrest,” Lt. Col. Michelle Olaivar, the regional police spokesperson in Camp Alagar here, told the Mindanao Daily News.

She said that one of the two political figures identified as Michael Guiterrez, incumbent town Mayor of Lopez Jaena, also a candidate for Vice-Governor of Misamis Occidental in 2022, was airlifted to Manila on Friday for further treatment.

“Police investigators were suspecting that a sniper hit Guiterrez who was with incumbent Congressman Henry Oaminal, of the 2nd District of Misamis Occidental and Jason Almonte, a candidate for Congressman of Misamis Occidental’s 1st ,” Olaivar said.

She said that the bullet hit Guiterrez on the left temple, which exited on his nape while Almonte also sustained a shrapnel wound on his nape from the broken window. Almonte was in stable condition while Oaminal was unscathed.

The public officials were holding a joint Christmas Party of the PDP-Laban and Asenso Ozamis political party attending a Business Center near a gas Sitio Pulao, Brgy. 7, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental when the shooting took place.

Olaivar that Police Regional Director Brig. Gen. Benjanin C. Acorda, Jr. ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the police to track down the suspect forbthe early resolution of the case. -0-
