Police Enforce Curfew Ordinance, Apprehend Violator with Contraband in Ozamiz City

In a concerted effort to maintain peace and order within the city, the Ozamiz City Police Station (CPS) executed a successful operation in accordance with City Ordinance No. 779, as well as Republic Act (RA) 9165 and RA 10591. The operation resulted in the apprehension of a curfew violator who was found in possession of illicit substances and other prohibited items.

Under the vigilant leadership of (PCPT) Elwood K. Malanog, the Investigation/Intelligence Officer, and with the direct supervision of Police Major (PMAJ) Dennis P. Tano, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Ozamiz City Police Station, the enforcement of City Ordinance Number 779 – which imposes curfew hours for adults – took place at Laurel Street, Barangay 50th District, Ozamiz City, in the early hours of August 16, 2023.

During the operation, law enforcement personnel arrested one Gilbert Giolen y Gacang, a 33-year-old male and resident of Barangay Carangan, Ozamiz City, for violating the imposed curfew hours. A subsequent body search led to the discovery of incriminating evidence, including a small rectangular heat-sealed transparent sachet containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu. The estimated weight of the seized substance was approximately 0.5 grams, carrying a street value of around Three Thousand Four Hundred Pesos (Php 3,400.00). Additionally, three live ammunition rounds of caliber 38, five disposable lighters, a black wallet, and a kitchen knife were confiscated from the suspect’s possession.

The operation was conducted with utmost transparency and adherence to proper procedure. Inventory, documentation, and markings were meticulously carried out at the crime scene in the presence of key witnesses, namely Evelyn Recamadas, a Barangay Councilor of Barangay 50th District, Jun Datulayta, a media representative, and Mr. Joel D. Bayno, a representative from the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Subsequently, the apprehended individual was transported and detained at the Ozamiz CPS station, where further legal proceedings will ensue.

The successful operation reflects the commitment of the Ozamiz City Police Station to uphold local ordinances and national laws, contributing to the maintenance of a safe and secure environment for all residents.
